A thirty-year veteran to the financial management business, Surendra Kumar Gupta will be bringing his experience to his new CFO position with Azure Power. As a member of the company’s executive team, he will support operational and business development financing, project initiatives, create business plans and help advise the board of directors.
BRE Global and TÜV Rheinland will be working together for access to the UK Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for PV system manufacturers under their newly executed memorandum of understanding (MOU). MCS, a UK-based program, certifies microgeneration technologies under vigorous criteria. Through the companies signed MOU, PV panel manufacturers who use TÜV Rheinland for testing and certification to apply for MCS approval through BRE Global. Ultimately, the MOU will see TÜV Rheinland oversee that testing and factory inspection, while BRE Global finalizes that quality review for the UK market.
GT Solar has shipped 1,000 DSS multicrystalline ingot growth furnaces in seven months having announced a new milestone of its 3,000th DSS system being shipped to customer, Gigastorage in Hsinchu, Taiwan. It was only in early November, 2010 that GT Solar announced it had reached a new milestone of its 2,000th DSS system shipment, then to another Taiwan-based PV producer, Green Energy Technology (GET).
The Japanese Government is contemplating making it compulsory for all new buildings to be fitted with solar panels by 2030, according to financial newspaper Nikkei. The proposed legislation illustrates Japan’s desire to promote the use of renewable energy and is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming G8 summit in Deauville, France.
Plans are in the works to develop and build a 20MW solar PV power plant on property surrounding the Maryland Correctional Institution outside of Hagerstown. The project would be the largest commercial solar facility in the state.
A common criticism of installing PV systems, large and small in Greece has been the bureaucratic red tape that had cased many projects to be delayed by several years, limiting the appeal of the country’s FiT and resulting in a standstill for most projects. Petra Solar is expanding past North America by bring its SunWave Solar Energy Solution to international markets including the Pacific Rim, Europe and Middle East. Its SunWave technology will feature a new Smart Energy Module (SEM), specifically designed for international consumers to convert photovoltaic DC electricity into 230V AC power. Petra Solar’s system has been certified to international grid standards holding, CE, IEC62109, G83, AS/NZS3100 and AS4777 safety and electrical compliance certifications.
Centrosolar and mounting solutions provider Zep Solar have signed a license agreement that will see Centrosolar manufacture Zep compatible module at its Wismar, Germany plant. The signed agreement also calls for the distribution of Zep products throughout Europe by Centrosolar. The companies note that they have mutually modified Zep’s standard frame profile specifically for Centrosolar so that it conforms to European roof application requirements.
The Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, Germany was on site with IBC Solar to celebrate the groundbreaking of the company’s new Sukow Solar Park. Set to be built across 76.6-acres of the former Sukow landfill, the 11MWp solar installation is expected to be completed in August and use 48,000 PV modules to generate 10,500,000kWh of solar electricity every year.
The cost competitive position of concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) technologies, especially since polysilicon prices have continued to fall from the heights of 2008, have constrained more widespread adoption. However, a new detailed report from GTM Research highlights a brighter future for the sector should CPV companies achieve their cost reduction roadmaps. In particular, the installed cost of CPV systems need to be reduced by more than 30% over the next four years for CPV installations to reach a healthy 1GW per annum rate by 2015.
