A 684kW PV system for Fort Hood’s Liberty Village military housing has been activated, the US Army base’s leadership announced.
Axium Solar installed the 3,000 Schott Solar ground-mounted PV panels on a four-acre site. Universal Services Fort Hood (USFH), owner of the project, provided funding of US$3 million and will operate and maintain the installation.
German company Wattner has acquired the 5.6MW solar power plant Rätzlingen I in Lower Saxony and invested approximately €10.5 million to incorporate it into its Wattner SunAsset 3 fund.
The first PV power plant constructed by Kolkata-based EMC has begun commercial operation on March 4. EMC developed the 5MW project as part of the union ministry of new and renewable energy’s Jawharlal Nehru national solar mission. Hoku Solar has announced signing an agreement with a subsidiary of Alexander &Baldwin (A&B) to design and build 7.2MW Port Allen Solar Farm on the island of Kaua’i, Hawaii.
First Solar has sold the 50MW Silver State North solar power plant to Enbridge, the two companies announced today. First Solar has installed more than 800.000 PV modules on a site of 600 acres in Clark County, Nevada under a fixed-price EPC agreement and will be providing operations and maintenance services to Enbridge.

Sainsbury’s has announced PV installations on the roofs of 115 of its supermarkets throughout the UK, totalling 7MW. The cylindrical PV modules were installed by British company Renewable Resources Energy Solutions.
Solar IPP Sonnedix has announced the acquisition of a 5.4MW ground mounted facility in France from Element Power Solar. Fully operational since February 2011, the plant is located in St Martin Lalande, near Carcassonne and expected to generate in excess of 6,000MWh per annum.
As revealed in Hanwha SolarOne’s recent quarterly financial conference call, the PV module manufacturer is moving downstream to become a project developer and financier. As part of those business changes the company has formed a joint venture with project developer S.A.G. Solarstrom to initially build-out 20MWp of rooftop projects - mainly in Northern Italy - that are expected to be completed by the end of June 2012.
Solar IV, the first solar plant in Vineland, New Jersey, has been completed and begun commercial operation. Vineland Solar IV, developed on 38 acres in Delsea Drive by OCI Solar Power, contains more than 13,000 PV modules and the project generates a total of 3MW. The energy is sold to the Vineland Municipal Electric Utility and will power local homes and businesses.
