The 140MW Karavasta plant, the largest PV project to date in Albania and the Western Balkans, has been successfully connected to the grid.

Located in southern Albania’s Fier region and awarded to Voltalia via a competitive tender process initiated by the Albanian government, the project comprises 240,000 bifacial panels and 18 units of Sineng’s EP-6250-HC-UD/30 MV turnkey stations.

According to long-term contracts, half of the electricity generated will be sold to Albanian public energy operator OSHEE, with the remainder supplied to private entities. Spanning 200 hectares, the plant is projected to produce an annual 265 GWh of electricity, while eliminating over 29,165 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

In a country where the majority of domestic electricity generation relies on hydropower and is susceptible to the challenges presented by frequent droughts, the project marks a strategic move to enhance energy resilience. Sineng VP Jianfei Li commented: “We are delighted to be part of this project, facilitating Albania’s transition towards a more diversified energy mix. Beyond mitigating the impact of climate change, the project will create employment opportunities, foster social development and contribute to ecological sustainability within the local community.”
