In order to verify the actual performance of modules based on different technologies in an offshore environment, JinkoSolar has conducted a comparison of the power generation of strings at a power station for a newly built offshore PV project in Putian, Fujian. The comprehensive results show that N-type TOPCon modules have a highest gain of 2.56% in power generation per watt compared to P-type BC modules.
1. Project Background
In today’s diverse application scenarios, reliability requirements for modules are increasingly high. The mudflat area in Putian, Fujian Province, with its unique marine climate characteristics, including complex environmental conditions such as tides, water vapour and salt spray, provides an ideal test bed for the evaluation of module performance. JinkoSolar N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules and P-Type BC bifacial equivalents from another manufacturer were installed in this area for this project.
2. Project Introduction
A total of 26 JinkoSolar N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules and 26 P-Type BC bifacial equivalents were deployed. The modules were installed in a mudflat area about 100 meters from the coastline, using fixed mounting systems and installed at an angle of 20°, 5 meters above the ground. Each string of modules was equipped with high-precision voltage and current sensors at the output end to achieve accurate monitoring and comprehensive analysis of power generation performance, ensuring that the data collected was both accurate and reliable, providing a guarantee for subsequent performance assessment and comparative analysis.
3. Test Results
From October 14 to November 16, the total power generation of the JinkoSolar modules was 114.34 kWh/kW, while the power generation of the P-Type modules was 112.63 kWh/kW, representing an average per-watt power gain of 1.52% for the former, the TOPCon modules performing particularly well under low light conditions on cloudy days. On October 18, for example, the average power generation of the TOPCon modules was 2.56% higher than that of the P-type, whereas on the remaining cloudy days the TOPCon modules also averaged a gain of more than 2%.
Despite the challenges presented by the conditions, the JinkoSolar modules demonstrated their power generation performance in a high humidity and high salt, foggy environment, the analysis showing that the advanced TOPCon design effectively improves reliability in an aquatic environment.
