China has encircled the Taklamakan desert, the country’s largest and the world’s second-largest shifting desert, with a 3,050-kilometre green belt of vegetation and sand-blocking technology powered by solar.

The 500MW PV sand control demonstration project is located on the southern edge of the desert and, through a “PV+Agriculture” arrangement, reinforces the area’s ecological defence line, with ‘sand fixing’ plants such as alfalfa to be planted during spring below the 22,000-acre photovoltaic panel.

Grand Sunergy, the project’s exclusive module supplier, designed its high efficiency product specially to incorporate tear, corrosion and load resistance.

The 500MW Photovoltaic Sand Control Demonstration Project is located on the southern edge of the Taklamakan Desert.

The company also participates in other types of “PV+” projects to widen the scope of PV application scenarios:

Photovoltaic + Offshore

In China’s Laizhou Bay, Grand Sunergy has supported the country’s first large-scale pile foundation fixed deepwater offshore project, with a capacity of 400MW. The company’s “Seapower” Series HJT module was selected to address the special application environment, with the company enhancing its G12 high-efficiency HJT modules through upgrades in encapsulation, glass coating, waterproofing, anti-corrosion measures and UV resistance.

The CGN Yantai Zhaoyuan 400MW offshore photovoltaic project is in the Laizhou Bay area of Zhaoyuan City.

Photovoltaic + Salt Pans

The project not only generates solar power but also maintains the yield and quality of salt production through surface evaporation. This synergy boosts energy output by an additional 2%-3%, achieving a balance between salt production and solar PV power generation.

The salt-PV complementary system maximizes land use efficiency and environmental conservation.

Photovoltaic + Transportation

The company has also installed PV panels on highways in Hebei province, providing the highway network with green energy.

The PV system along highways effectively utilizes idle land and creates new opportunities for localized energy consumption.
