The 2025 Global Energy Interconnection Conference has been held in Beijing, attracting attendees including government representatives, heads of international organizations, industry leaders and experts from over 40 countries. This year’s conference, under the theme “Global Energy Interconnection: Meeting Global Electricity Demand with Clean and Green Energy,” focused on various topics such as digital technology integration, investment and financing innovation, international energy cooperation and energy-climate synergy.

Zhong Baoshen, LONGi Chairman and GM, was invited to participate in the high-level dialogue session titled “The Future of Clean and Green Energy Transition”, pointing out that the efficiency of PV products increases by approximately 50% per decade, while the cost reduction is even more substantial. Their notable advantages also include ease of deployment and short construction cycles — a household PV system requires only 10 to 15 days for installation, and even a gigawatt-level power plant can be completed in just 5 to 6 months.

Driven by technological iterations and the industrialization of innovations, the cost of PV power generation has dropped by 90% over the past decade, making it the most economical energy source in the vast majority of countries and regions worldwide. This has strongly supported the achievement of carbon neutrality goals.

Regarding the future of PV, Zhong Baoshen emphasized the need to focus on the following “four aspects” to continue contributing the “LONGi Solution” to global energy transition and green, low-carbon, sustainable development.

Firstly, accelerate the commercialization of high-efficiency technologies and upgrade existing production lines to advanced capacity as soon as possible, providing more efficient and reliable products for the global energy market. Secondly, continue to focus on technological economic performance and manufacturing excellence, leveraging digital means to enhance quality, delivery efficiency and material utilization. Thirdly, expand diversified application scenarios by promoting the integration of PV and buildings (BIPV), residential PV and microgrid systems in unpowered or underpowered regions to improve energy equity and accessibility. Fourth, persist in advancing technological innovation, accelerating the mass production of high-efficiency technologies such as tandem solar cells, to further improve quality and reduce costs.

Zhong Baoshen stressed that cooperation is a key element in addressing climate change, and PV technology will provide solid support for energy transition and energy equity.

In September 2015, China proposed the initiative “to discuss constructing a global energy interconnection and to promote meeting global power demand in a clean and green way” at the UN Sustainable Development Summit, initiating the development of the global energy interconnection cause.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the “China Initiative” for global energy interconnection. Since its establishment, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) has consistently adhered to its mission of promoting the construction of a global energy interconnection and fostering green, low-carbon, sustainable development.

GEIDCO has actively contributed innovative pathways and Chinese solutions for promoting global and regional sustainable development, built an international standard system focused on cutting-edge areas and aligned with development needs, promoted the Global Energy Interconnection initiative to become a flag leading energy transformation and transition, and made positive contributions to advancing the implementation of the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the building of a community with a shared future.
