Tongwei Solar has announced that its cumulative global shipments of cells had reached 200GW at the end of 2023, representing a market share of 15% and placing it as the industry leader for the sixth consecutive year.
With the PV industry at a critical juncture of technological updates and iterations, the company has consolidated its position as a leading player by accelerating the establishment of an innovation chain for the industry, officially launching its Global Innovation and R&D Centre project in late 2023. As of the end of last year, the company had applied for a total of 1,917 patents, with 1,069 already granted.
In terms of capacity planning, phase IV of Tongwei’s Meishan Base project will, once completed, become the world’s largest production facility for crystalline silicon cells, with capacity planned to reach 130-150GW by 2026.
The company has also made significant progress in the silicon material segment, reaching agreement with Inner Mongolia’s Ordos government on the joint construction of a green base material integration project at an investment of RMB 28 billion (USD 3.9 billion), its first phase scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025.
