Tongwei’s Terra shingled modules have been awarded carbon footprint certification (ECS) by French body Certisolis, an important achievement for the product series prior to the introduction of carbon tariffs.
The ECS is required by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) for products entering the country for deployment in 100kW+ PV projects. Such products are required to meet entire lifecycle carbon footprint criteria covering raw material manufacturing, process technology, module production and energy consumption during transportation and, with the EU and South Korea now also imposing carbon footprint requirements on PV products, certification of compliance will become critical in terms of a manufacturer’s competitiveness in an increasing number of markets.
Tongwei’s Terra series shingled modules include four products: Terra-5K, Terra-5E, Terra-5C, and Terra-S6, all of which excel in ultra-low carbon terms and offer high efficiency, reliability and compatibility together with excellent aesthetics.
As a company, Tongwei is an established leader in polysilicon production, with an annual capacity of 230,000 tons, and commenced cell manufacturing in 2013. With current cell capacity of 63GW, a figure expected to surpass 70GW by the end of 2022, the company has also assumed leadership of this industry sector. A forecast 15GW of module capacity by the end of 2022 and ongoing investment in new factories would indicate that Tongwei is now poised to become a major player in a third segment of the PV industry, taking full advantage of its vertical integration.
