The UK team of Trinasolar’s International System Business Unit (ISBU) has announced the acquisition of the 49.9MW/99.8MWh Chatterley energy storage project from UK-based developer Abbey Group.

The project, located in the Midlands, is designed to provide critical flexibility and support to the UK electricity grid through a two-hour battery storage solution. Its construction is scheduled to commence this month, with the asset expected to participate in key balancing and ancillary services markets as well as provide critical capacity support to the regional grid network.

The Chatterley project marks a significant step in the Trina ISBU’s growing energy storage portfolio in the UK and aligns with its broader commitment to accelerating the transition to a low-carbon energy system.

Sasha Georgievski, Development Director for the UK, commented: “The ISBU UK team is actively working to establish a strong development and delivery platform. Our focus is on building a pipeline of high-quality solar and storage projects. This strategic effort will enable us to deliver value to our partners and the grid while supporting the UK’s renewable energy targets.”

Leonardo Lotti, Head of Trinasolar ISBU for Europe, added: “We are delighted to bring the Chatterley project into the ISBU portfolio. This acquisition reinforces our long-term commitment to the UK energy storage market and our confidence in the vital role batteries will play in enabling a net-zero grid.”

Abbey Group Operations Director Andy Brand stated: “We are delighted to have completed the transaction of the Chatterley energy storage project with Trina, a trusted and valued partner of the Abbey Group. This project’s sustainability credentials align perfectly with our company and we are happy that Trina will be delivering it in the near future.”

The transaction further strengthens Trinasolar’s position as a leading global player in utility-scale solar and storage, and follows a series of strategic investments across EMEA.
