Trinasolar VP Dr. Yifeng Chen has elaborated on the latest progress of the company’s i-TOPCon Ultra technology at a conference in Shenzhen, commenting: “The technology combines passivating contacts, mitigating optical parasitic absorption, and ultra-fine line printing technology, and has now achieved a world record efficiency of 26.58% in the laboratory, surpassing 26.5% for the first time in the history of TOPCon cells.”

Trinasolar has consistently led the way in i-TOPCon technology, announcing the latest of its now 28 world records in November, certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin, Germany. Chen went on to say that the open-circuit voltage of 744.6mV demonstrates the exceptional passivation quality of the cell, reinforcing the immense potential for future efficiency gains within TOPCon technology.

The company has also announced that its industrial larger-area 210×182mm² n-type bifacial i-TOPCon cell has achieved an efficiency of 25.9%, breaking a record set seven years ago by Germany’s Fraunhofer ISE.

The launch of i-TOPCon Ultra heralds a new chapter in the evolution of TOPCon technology, since it sets the stage for substantial gains in both efficiency and power output, ushering in a new phase for the industry. With this technology, Trinasolar’s Vertex N modules are set to undergo a significant upgrade, with power increases of up to 40W.
