MNRE adds 12.7GW of solar module capacity to ALMM-I, total listed capacity exceeds 217GW

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-I by adding 12,724MW of solar module manufacturing capacity in its August 2026 update, taking the total listed capacity to 217,107MW.

Adani New Industries recorded the largest addition, with 4,781MW of new capacity coming from its manufacturing facility in Kutch, Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Fujiyama Power Systems added a 1,014MW of new capacity through its manufacturing plant in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, while HR Solar Solution added a new capacity of 631MW from its Howrah, West Bengal facility.

Additionally, the August update includes four new manufacturers with a combined manufacturing capacity of 1,638MW.

SLR Solar added 1,020MW of manufacturing capacity from its facility in Kishangarh, Rajasthan. Veda Solar added 546MW from its Surat, Gujarat plant; Senses14 Power Solution added 57MW from its facility in Bihta, Bihar; and Poola Energy added 15MW from its manufacturing plant in Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh.

The new companies have received approvals for domestically manufactured solar modules, with most of the new listings covering bifacial n-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) glass-to-glass modules.

Several established manufacturers also increased their ALMM-listed capacities during the latest update.

SAEL Solar P6 added 2,694MW, while Credence Solar Panels increased its listed capacity by 1,796MW. RPSG Solvanta also increased its listed capacity by 249MW.

Meanwhile, Sova Solar’s enlisted capacity declined marginally by 79MW following revisions to its approved module manufacturing portfolio.

In addition to capacity additions, MNRE approved several new module models under ALMM List-I. Silver Consumer Electricals received approval for bifacial n-type TOPCon glass-to-transparent backsheet modules manufactured at its Rajkot, Gujarat facility.

Goldi Sun secured approval for bifacial n-type TOPCon glass-to-glass modules from its Mangrol, Gujarat manufacturing plant.

New model additions were also approved for Sova Solar, Credence Solar Panels, RPSG Solvanta and SAEL Solar P6, alongside their respective capacity revisions where applicable.

The August revision follows the previous ALMM update issued on 6 July 2026, when MNRE added 10,494MW of module manufacturing capacity, increasing the total listed capacity to 204,383MW.

MNRE proposes standardised nomenclature for ALMM-listed solar cells

In a separate development, MNRE has proposed introducing a standardised 14-digit alphanumeric nomenclature for solar PV cell models listed under the ALMM List-II.

The ministry said the move is intended to establish a uniform identification system for domestically manufactured solar cells, replacing the current practice under which manufacturers use their own model naming conventions. According to MNRE, the lack of a standardised format has made it difficult to consistently identify the technical characteristics of products listed under ALMM.

Under the proposal, every ALMM-listed solar cell model would be assigned a unique identification code incorporating key technical information, including the origin of the wafer, ingot and polysilicon, cell technology, wafer size, busbar configuration and a manufacturer-specific identifier.

MNRE said the standardised nomenclature would improve product identification and traceability across the domestic solar manufacturing value chain while supporting the implementation of ALMM List-II. The ministry also noted that identifying the origin of cell components would help distinguish ALMM-listed solar modules based on their bill of materials.

The ministry has opened the draft proposal to comments from stakeholders, which will last until 13 August 2026.

MNRE mandates that all government-backed projects subject to the ALMM source solar modules from ALMM List-I, solar cells from ALMM List-II, which was first published in August with an initial enlisted manufacturing capacity of 13GW and, in the future, solar wafers from ALMM List-III.

In April 2026, enlisted manufacturing capacity under ALMM List-II increased from 26.4GW to 27.7GW. That revision also marked the first inclusion of heterojunction (HJT) solar cell technology after Reliance Industries secured 1.2GW of enlisted manufacturing capacity.

More recently, MNRE extended an exemption from ALMM List-II requirements for solar PV cells used in net-metering and open access renewable energy projects until 31 December 2026.
