Solon and UniSource Energy Services (UES) have agreed to develop a 1.22MW solar PV system on six acres of land owned by the Kingman Unified School District (KUSD) and located behind La Senita Elementary School in Arizona. The companies state that this will be the largest single physical PV system on school property in the state with UES owning and operating the system while Solon takes the lead on the engineering, procurement and construction services.

Powered by Solon modules, the 1.22MW system will feature the company’s single-axis trackers and use over 5,000 UL-certified, 235W solar modules, which have been manufactured at the company’s Tucson, Arizona location. Solon plans to install its SCADA system so that remote control and monitoring of the system will be readily available.

“In addition to helping UES meet its renewable energy goals, this system will provide an estimated US$1 million to US$1.5 million impact on the local economy,” said Carmine Tilghman, director of renewable resources for UES and its parent company, UniSource Energy.

Construction is anticipated to be finalized by the end of this year with Mohave Country contractors supporting the solar system’s installation.
