solarhybrid has signed a strategic partnership with an unnamed Italian developer for a series of upcoming projects. The companies will collaborate on projects of varying size and they hope to have established a portfolio totalling around 30MW by the end of 2011.

Having listened to more quarterly conference calls from listed companies than I care to mention, two contrasting characteristics are worth mentioning. In the PV industry, players such as First Solar get star treatment. With so many analysts on the call, questions are limited to one and no follow-up. At times, even with that policy in place, not all analysts get a chance to pose a question. However, the reverse can also happen.

Unirac and Canadian Solar Solutions have come together to offer its residential and commercial customers 30MW of Canadian Solar’s PV systems coupled with Unirac’s mounting solutions for rooftop installations in Canada. Canadian Solar will provide the engineering, procurement and construction services for the projects, while Unirac will supply its racking technology. Both companies look to their partnership as a way for their customers to further take advantage of Ontario’s FIT program.

Martifer Solar has entered into a binding agreement with Sunflower for the engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance for 13MW of PV plants throughout the Piedmont regions of Italy. Martifer and Sunflower have previously worked together on two recently completed 2.1MW PV plants in the Province of Alessandria.

Foster Wheeler will design and supply equipment for the planned 100MW Shams-1 solar power plant at Madinat Zayed, United Arab Emirates. The plant, located just outside Abu Dhabi, will receive the equipment in the third quarter of 2011.

Israel's National Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau has signed the first power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy in the country's history, with Ketura Sun, the joint venture between Arava Solar Power Company (APC) and Kibbutz Ketura, which is developing a 4.9MW plant in the southern Arava near Eilat. The agreement, which will stretch over 20 years, is said to be worth NIS 250 million.

The Philadelphia Eagles are setting their sights on another prize other than Super Bowl XLV trophy this year with their commitment to power Lincoln Financial Field with wind, solar and dual-fuel generated electricity. The team claims that this will be the world’s first major sports stadium to convert to self-generated renewable energy.

Martifer Solar is adding to its 7MW of constructed Italian solar parks it has built in the Basilicata, Sicilia and Apulia regions with a turnkey project in the Lombardy region of Italy. The project will consist of three ground-mounted PV solar plants, which at peak power will total 3MW.
