SunEdison has signed up integrator REC Solar as its first channel partner. The North American solar energy services company's channel program provides national installers and integrators increased project financing capabilities, including the ability to deliver projects via a solar power purchase agreement. The PV systems developed under the program also receive SunEdison's service, maintenance, and monitoring capabilities through its advanced control and management technologies.

Just over a month after Pacific Crest financial analyst, Mark Bachman revealed that First Solar had been selected for a massive extension to Sempra Generation’s 10MW solar power plant in Boulder City, Nevada, First Solar has announced the deal. First Solar is to design, engineer and construct a 48MW plant at the same location, with the project expected to be completed sometime in 2010, subject to Sempra obtaining a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a utility.

Applied Solar, Inc. announced the start-up of the Solar Communities program in San Diego.  This program plans to increase the number of homes using clean solar energy by getting rid of cost by eliminating the most expensive Tier 3 and Tier 4 energy purchases, which usually is at least 60% of the typical San Diego Gas & Electric customer’s yearly bill.

enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company, have officially dedicated the Hall’s Warehouse Corp. Solar Project marking the completion of the 1.8MW solar installation, bringing the Hall’s total solar output to 3.2MW making it New Jersey’s largest private commercial roof-top solar system.

Five JCPenney stores in New Jersey now benefit from 2 MW worth of solar power systems featuring SunPower modules installed by the PV company and owned and operated by Integrys Energy Services. The initiative is part of the retailer's efforts to deploy 3.7 MW of solar arrays at nine of its stores in New Jersey and California.

Santa Barbara has activated its first large-scale, municipal solar power plant. The system, a 384-KW set of arrays built on six of the Southern California city's Corporate Yard rooftops, was installed by Suntech Energy Solutions during the fall of 2008 and is financed and operated by Tioga Energy.

The Austin (TX) City Council approved a 30-MW solar power plant Thursday, choosing Gemini Solar Development Co. to build the site for Austin Energy, the area's municipal electric utility. The plant will be constructed on 300 acres of city-owned land located approximately 25 miles east of town.

SunEdison and Developers Diversified Realty have embarked on what is being called the largest solar distributed generation program of its kind. The North American solar energy services provider has obtained the rights to deploy PV systems at more than 200 shopping centers developed and managed by the Cleveland-based real estate investment trust. The potential capacity of the program could run as high as 259 MW on locations in 24 states and Puerto Rico, covering up to an estimated 30 million square feet.
