Portuguese grid operator Redes Energéticas Nacionais has said it will invest more than €900 million (US$1.1 billion) by 2024 in technologies and improvements to the electricity network to support the country’s green energy transition.

Operator REE to deploy €3.2bn until 2022 to back energy transition plans, with €1.53 billion earmarked for renewable integration and €215m for storage.

Grid expansion push is first of nine projects set to help country accommodate renewable surge all the way to 2025.
