Rio Tinto has announced a plan to build a 80MW solar PV plant to supply power to its company’s iron ore operations in the Pilbara region.

Australian metals company Fortescue has unveiled plans for a vast renewables hub including up to 3,333MW of solar to power its mining operations in Western Australia.

34MW plant backed by 12MWh of storage will cost Rio Tinto US$98m and is set to come online in 2021, the same year that the mine starts production.
