Sunvalley Solar has scored another commercial solar installation; this time with XL Biofuels in Thermal, California. Late last year, Sunvalley was awarded a US$2 million contract for a project in Long Beach, California, which was followed by two more project contracts for Southern California sites.
According to a report by PV Magazine, Azure Power has advised that it has commissioned its third solar plant in just under two years. Located in Rajasthan, the latest 5MW plant will be found in Kathauti village and is said to be the first 5MW plant under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).
EnterSolar advised that the installation of an 877kW rooftop PV system at Chelten House Products’ Bridgeport, New Jersey, facility had been completed. The system uses over 3,650 solar panels and is set to produce over 1,000,000kWh of electricity per year. Over the next 25-years the PV project is expected to generate 26 million kWh of electricity, which is said to be enough to power over 125 homes.
Westinghouse Solar has been granted an equity investment from CBD Energy; a partnership that will also see the companies mutually explore a wider strategic relationship. The investment saw Westinghouse Solar issue common stock at a price of US$0.60 per share for gross proceeds of US$1,000,000.
According to a new report by Pike Research, “Remote Microgrids”, the worldwide market for remote microgrids over the next six years will expand from 349MW of generation capacity to over 1.1GW by 2017. The catalyst behind the increase will be the integration of solar PV, which Pike advised would help reduce diesel fuel consumption.
New Energy Technologies advised that it had appointed Dr. Scott Hammond as principal scientist and Dr. Christopher Harris to its board of advisors. Both Hammond and Harris join New Energy from the US DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), which has been partnering with New Energy through a cooperative research and development agreement for the advancement of the company’s SolarWindow technology.
Daqo New Energy was named a 2011 China Cleantech Top 20 winner by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Tsing Capital. The award aims to recognize organizations in the cleantech sector in China that support the sustainable growth in the country.
China Sunergy advised that it had shipped 1.59MW of its solar panels to Emotion Energy, which has partnered with Edison Energy to install solar panels for 117 houses in a residential rooftop project in Faifley, Scotland for the Knowes Housing Association Scotland. The PV project will allow 117 Knowes tenants to partake in the energy generated from the solar panels free of charge for 25 years. The solar project was installed prior to the change in FiT on December 12.
The 38th IEEE Photovoltaics Specialists Conference (PVSC), June 3 – 8, 2012 in Austin, Texas, will be opening its registration on December 26. The event will begin with Austin Solar Day on June 3, 2012 while the remainder of the event will focus on ten technical areas including, fundamentals and new concepts for future technologies, thin-film polycrystalline photovoltaics, III-V and concentrator technologies, crystalline silicon photovoltaics, thin-film silicon-based technologies, OPV, space technologies, characterization methods, PV modules and terrestrial systems and a PV velocity forum.
Ormat Technologies has signed a PPA with Imperial Irrigation District (IID) for 10MW of solar PV energy, making this the first independent PV project for Ormat in the US, which will be located near the Heber geothermal complex in Imperial Valley, California. The companies did not disclose what types of modules would be used in the project, nor did they release the value of the deal.
