Solaria has begun shipping its tracker-optimized, monocrystalline-silicon photovoltaic solar modules to customers in North America, Europe, and Asia. Although the company would not reveal the amount of shipments nor the financial details of any of the agreements, sources said that the modules have been designated for project-level installations.

Solar modules incorporating Suniva's high-efficiency monocrystalline-silicon photovoltaic cells have been installed and commissioned on the rooftop of the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi, India. The 1MW system, said to be the largest rooftop PV power plant in the country, was implemented by Reliance Industries (RIL) Solar Group, which also supplied the PV modules. The new "model green" stadium will be one of the primary venues of the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Grape Solar and Patriot Solar Group say they have partnered to provide complete, cost-effective equipment solutions to the U.S. and Canadian solar markets. As a result of the partnership, the two companies will also enter the Latin American solar market.

Honeywell will supply the process automation and control platform for Woongjin Polysilicon's new production plant in South Korea. The solar polysilicon manufacturer will use the supplier's Experion process knowledge system with Foundation Fieldbus solutions to help the Sangju factory produce an estimated 5000 tons of polysilicon annually.

Solar developer/financier Helio Micro Utility (Helio mU) has acquired Simple Energies, a renewable energy project development firm with a 50MW global pipeline. As part of the deal, Simple Energies CEO and industry veteran Ty Jagerson joins Helio mU's executive management team.

Dow Jones & Co. plans to build a 4.1MW solar photovoltaic power plant on the 200-acre campus of its corporate offices in South Brunswick, NJ. The design of the installation calls for more than 13,000 solar panels, covering nearly 230,000 square feet of parking space.

Recurrent Energy has been awarded 154.5 MW (AC) of distributed solar power projects by the Ontario Power Authority under the province's new feed-in tariff program. (UPDATE: Note that original press release stated 145.5MW, but company has since said it actually received additional projects, pushing the total to 154.5MW.) The deal makes Recurrent the largest developer of such projects in Ontario under OPA’s FiT. The projects are expected to be completed in 2011 and early 2012, the company said.

In a major step toward commercialization, CIGS thin-film photovoltaics developer Applied Quantum Technology has landed $10 million in funding and also signed a production equipment deal with Intevac. The funds, which come from the company’s original investors as well as some new backers, will be used to build out AQT’s initial 15MW solar-cell production line in Silicon Valley and expand its staff.

SolarEdge Technologies has appointed former SMA America president John Berdner as its general manager for North America, where he will direct operations in the region for the distributed solar power harvesting and PV monitoring solutions company.
