IDC Energy Insights has launched three new global-research projects focused on quantifying and tracking the rapidly-growing Smart Meter, Photovoltaic Module, and Solar Inverter markets. To help man the new programmes, five analysts will be joining IDC's Worldwide Tracker team, which will be managed by Ryan Reith.

“Although IDC Energy Insights has been covering these markets from a qualitative perspective for the past five years – analyzing market trends, key vendors, and implementation best practices – we're now expanding our coverage into the quantitative arena using IDC's proven Tracker methodology and process. This initiative will provide additional value to any organization that needs worldwide quarterly updates on these smart grid and clean energy technologies, but is especially relevant to technology suppliers, government agencies, and the investment community,” said Rick Nicholson, vice president of research for IDC Energy Insights.

“IDC Energy Insights' vast knowledge of these markets, combined with IDC's 15-plus years of experience in creating trackers, will result in a very compelling value proposition for the market,” said Eric Prothero, Worldwide Tracker Research's senior vice president. “The key assets to our tracker methodology – a global plus local perspective, our proprietary tools platform, and the multiple inputs into the process – will be the cornerstone to creating the highest quality energy data products in the market.”

IDC's trackers are updated every quarter and provide a breakdown of total market size and vendor share by various market segmentations for both historical and forecast periods.
