IEEE PVSC opens call for papers and nominations for William R. Cherry Award

The 37th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialist Conference (PVSC) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011 and has opened its call for papers to be presented at the June 19th through June 24th conference in Seattle, Washington. Authors who wish to submit their papers should provide a technical abstract by the February 21, 2011 deadline. Details on the abstract submission process can be found here

Papers for the IEEE PVSC conference should focus on one of the following ten technical areas: Fundamentals and new concepts for future technologies; CIGS and CdTe thin-film solar cells and related materials; III-V and concentrator technologies; Amorphous, nano and film Si technologies; crystalline silicon technologies; organic photovoltaics; space technologies, advances in characterization of photovoltaics; PV modules and terrestrial systems; PV velocity forum: accelerating the PV economy.

In addition, nominations are now being taken for the William R. Cherry Award. Since 1980 the award has been given to a member of the PV community who has greatly influenced the field of photovoltaics. All nominations are due by January 10, 2011, with additional information on the nomination process available here

“The explosion in photovoltaic development worldwide, especially in light of difficult economic conditions, clearly demonstrates the importance of photovoltaics as a critical component to our renewable energy future,” said David Wilt, general chair for 2011. “We anticipate another record number of submitted abstracts and participants for the 37th IEEE PVSC, and we look forward to celebrating our 50th birthday in Seattle next June.”
