A delegation of mayors and government officials from several countries, including Jordan, Oman, New Zealand and Lebanon, has visited LONGi’s headquarters in Xi’an, exploring the latest in photovoltaic technology and discussing pathways for green development in the context of the global energy transition.
Accompanied by LONGi Global Brand Director Floria Wang, the group toured the company’s smart energy exhibition hall, gaining a detailed understanding of its journey from a silicon wafer innovator to a global leader in solar technology and expressing significant interest in its latest high-efficiency back-contact cell technology, the result of an investment of tens of billions of RMB over a number of years. With LONGi consistently setting world records for the performance of its crystalline silicon single-junction cells and crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells, the guests went on to learn about the specific impact of efficiency improvements in terms of reducing land use and lowering the levelized cost of electricity, gaining a clearer understanding of the economic viability of PV as a major future source of green power.
Moving to specific project cases, from a project in the Kubuqi desert to distributed microgrids in off-grid areas of Africa, from floating power stations in Southeast Asia to rooftop PV systems at zero-carbon factories in Europe, each project vividly demonstrated the adaptability and reliability of the company’s solutions across diverse geographical and socio-economic conditions.
Jamal Nayef Ali Abu Obeid, chairman of the municipal council of Ramtha, Jordan, noted that the combination of PV with agriculture and water has great potential in the Middle East, expressing hope that the company could replicate its success in his country.
Hussein Mohammed Hassan Al Rawatar from Muttrah in Oman was particularly interested in LONGi’s technological leadership in large-scale ground-mounted power plants and wind-solar-storage integrated projects, mentioning that Oman is actively advancing its “Vision 2040,” with energy transition as a key pillar.
Mousharraf Saadou Hajj Youssef, mayor of Sidon in Lebanon, showed a keen interest in distributed PV and commercial rooftop projects, pointing out that stable and reliable green electricity is crucial for improving livelihoods and economic recovery in Lebanese cities.
It was unanimously agreed that, under the shared mission of combating global climate change, city managers and new energy technology companies need to establish closer collaborative mechanisms to accelerate the transformation of laboratory breakthroughs into on-the-ground projects, enabling clean energy to benefit communities on a global basis, with Wang reaffirming that LONGi is committed to joining hands with global partners to accelerate the green energy transition.
