LONGi and its distributor Empower are spearheading the clean energy transition in Sudan in collaboration with the UNDP, with a positive impact achieved on the country’s agricultural sector. Agriculture has long been a key pillar of the Sudanese economy, with 200 million acres of arable land, the largest in Africa. However, the sector now faces challenges from a combination of conflict, economic issues and climate change.
With current power shortages due to the political instability and rising fuel costs, solar energy has become a game-changer for the sector, with solar powered irrigation systems now enabling farmers to cultivate land more efficiently, reduce operational expenses and adapt to water scarcity.
Empower has already implemented a number of solar initiatives, including the Shendi and Al-Matammah project where a 459 kWp solar installation, deploying 1,009 LONGi panels, powers 68 solar pumps.
By embracing solar solutions through the partnership between the two parties, Sudan is paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future, demonstrating the transformative power of clean energy in revitalizing agriculture and empowering communities.
