It is also the first project to come forward under the new joint venture, formed in January by module manufacturer Solar Frontier and the Development Bank of Japan.

The project will involve installing 72,000 modules next to the airport’s B runway and on a cargo warehouse. The annual output of the two installations is expected to be 12,000,000kWh.

The installation work will begin midway through this year, with the aim of starting operations next January.

New Kansai International Airport Company will provide airport land and buildings for the project, while Solar Frontier will provide CIS solar modules and operation & maintenance services. DBJ will support financial structuring for the project.
