Nautilus Solar has bought two distributed generation solar projects in Gainesville, Florida and has plans to develop a third Greenfield utility-scale site in the state. Work has already begun on the 352kW Exchange Shopping Center and 131kW Green Cove airport sites, with both expected to be operational by the end of April. The electricity produced by the two systems will be bought by Gainesville Regional Utility under a 20-year power purchase agreement .
“With these projects we are pleased to enter into the Florida solar market,” said Nautilus Solar CEO, James Rice. “Gainesville Regional Utility has shown renewable energy leadership by offering one of the first municipal Solar Feed-in-Tariff programs in the country. We look forward to working with them on these projects and others in the future.”
At the Green Cove site, two airport hangers are being fitted out with 273 solar panels, which are being installed and managed by Pure Energy Solar International; the Exchange rooftop system will have 1,500 solar panels and is being built by Inman Solar.

In nearby Taylor County, Nautilus is also set to start work on a 10MW project. The county’s status as a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern had seen the start date for the development delayed, but, with an environmental review of the site now carried out, construction of the ground-mounted system will begin shortly.
