Enel Green Power wins big in Brazil

Italian-based developer Enel Green Power (EGP) was the big winner in the latest solar-dedicated auction in Brazil while average prices per MWh fell below US$85.

With an extra 410MW awarded to it in the latest auction, the company now claims to be the biggest player in the Brazilian market. It has a total of 553MW of solar awarded to it under 20-year contracts.

The auction received bids totalling 11.3GW across 341 projects. Just 30 projects totalling 1,043MW were successful. The average price was BR301.79/MWh (US$83.19/MWh), according to data released by the country’s Energy Research Agency (EPE). This is 13% lower than the BR340 ceiling price imposed in the auction.

SunEdison was awarded just under 60MW at a price of BR305.51/MWh. The lowest successful bid price was BR296/MWh.
