Hidden defects are invisible to the human eye, which present a significant risk of decreasing the module’s performance. Defects like micro-cracks can happen anywhere and anytime, during production, transportation or installation. Detection of micro-cracks is therefore required throughout the production process to ensure non-defective operation of modules in the field.

Solution

Electroluminescence imaging identifies hidden defects. Integrating EL inspection in the module production provides helpful information about the production process before lamination, after lamination and after flashing. Contacting for the ‘testing before lamination’ and ‘testing after lamination’ versions can be fully automated or performed manually. For the ‘testing of framed modules’ version, contacting is performed manually and de-contacting can be automated. Benefits for module manufacturers include the ability to generate higher yield by repairing modules before lamination as well as being able to ship a high quality and reliable module using an approved inspection technology before shipment. Simple roller conveyors are all that is required to load and unload the system automatically with non-laminated, laminated, or framed modules. The system is available as short-edge leading and as long-edge leading configuration, so the SolarModule EL-inline can be integrated in both types of conveying systems. The electroluminescence images can be judged manually or through automatic image processing software.

Applications

Solar Modules of different stages during production process can be inspected by the system, e.g. panels before lamination, after lamination or framed modules. The system is designed for both Mono- and multicrystalline silicon solar modules. Module sizes handled include minimum of 400 x 600 mm and maximum of 1050 x 2000 mm (W x H). Thin film module applications also possible on request.

Platform

MBJ Solutions provides leading electroluminescence inspection for the entire module production process with inspection solutions for cells, strings and modules. Electroluminescence inspection for modules is also available as flasher integrated solution.
