Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh will be equipped with the city’s first solar rooftop plant using Conergy’s PV modules. The 200kW installation will be located on the roofs of towers A and C in the KAFD, reducing the city’s dependence on oil-generated electricity and bringing the city closer to its goal of becoming a recipient of the ‘LEED Gold’ certification awarded by the US Green Building Council.

Conergy will supply over 800 of its Conergy PowerPlus modules to Modern Times Technical Systems (MTTS), a locally-based engineering company, for the project. The modules will be installed on Conergy’s SunTop III mounting systems across a surface of 1,300m2, and the system's annual output of 330MWh will be connected to the city’s grid by means of 14 string inverters.

“The KAFD is no doubt an ecological pioneer, who we commend for playing this role,” says Alexander Lenz, Conergy president of South East Asia and the Middle East. “With its environmentally friendly architecture, the KAFD demonstrates how the Saudi financial sector can reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. With the first rooftop plant in Riyadh, the KAFD is setting an example – and simultaneously encouraging more green awareness and action in the Middle East.”
