Simon Bransfield-Garth selected as OPV developer Eight19’s first CEO

Dr. Simon Bransfield-Garth has been selected by Eight19, an organic photovoltaic (OPV) technology developer, as the company’s first chief executive officer. His appointment comes after a September 2010, US$7.4 million investment from the Carbon Trust and French chemical company Rhodia for the commercialization of OPV technology that will be created at Cambridge University’s Cavendish Laboratory; to which Eight19 is closely associated.

In regards to his new appointment, Garth commented, “I am tremendously excited and privileged to have taken the helm at Eight19. The solar power market is in a period of explosive growth and Eight19, with technology backing from Cambridge University and exceptional team of engineers and scientists is poised to play a significant role”

Bransfield-Garth is a 25-year veteran of technology-based businesses for the semiconductor, automotive and mobile phones sectors. He spent seven years with Symbian, where he served as VP of global marketing, and is credited with founding Myriad Solutions.

Previously a fellow at Cambridge, Bransfield-Garth also received his BA and PhD in engineering from the university.
