Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy buy 50MW First Solar plant

Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy have purchased a 50MW PV plant from First Solar.

The Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy partnership was formed in 2010. The latest acquisition takes its total solar capacity to 290MW.

“The acquisition of the Macho Springs facility is another positive step in advancing the development of solar technologies. Turner Renewable Energy is pleased to continue our collaboration as a strategic partner with Southern Company,” said Ted Turner, owner of Turner Renewable Energy.

The Macho Springs project is the largest in New Mexico. El Paso Electric has a 20 year power purchase agreement (PPA) for all the electricity generated by the plant. It covers 243 hectares of State Trust land near Deming, New Mexico.
