Bosch ‘reviewing’ future in solar

Solar manufacturer Bosch Solar Energy is reviewing its future in the solar industry amid heavy losses suffered in 2012.

A spokeswoman for Bosch Solar Energy, confirmed to PV-Tech that the company is in discussions about its continued presence in the solar industry although a decision has yet to be reached, she said. A statement is expected to be released later today.

In January it was reported that Bosch made a loss of US$1.4 billion in its solar division.

At the time, CEO Volkmar Denner told Bloomberg that “no final decision has been made for the strategic realignment”.

At the end of last year, Bosch also announced its decision to leave the Desertec project.

The company’s solar division currently employs 3,200 people.
