Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of the utility Southern Company, has launched its 2015/16 Advanced Solar Initiative (ASI) Distributed Generation (DG) programme, soliciting DG projects of varying size up to 100MW.
The firm intends to acquire these solar resources using a combination of competitive bidding and fixed pricing.

Meanwhile, Georgia Power has also started construction of three 30MW solar PV facilities at three separate Army bases throughout the state. The projects, which are owned by Georgia Power, are located at Forts Benning, Gordon and Stewart, cover more than 200 acres each and are scheduled to be completed and begin delivering power to the state's electric grid by the end of 2016.
