Germany breaks monthly solar generation record in July

Germany broke its monthly solar power generation record in July topping 5.1TWh, according to data from the EEX Transparency Platform.

The record generation, is more than the country produced from wind (5TWh) in January 2013.

The all-time high generation, quoted in a report by Fraunhofer ISE, comes off the back of especially sunny weather and continued increases in capacity, albeit at a slower rate than experienced in previous years. The 5.1GWh figure was 42% higher than for the same period last year.

In June the country installed 309MW of new capacity according to network authority Bundesnetzagentur. In June 2012 1.79GW was installed.

A record 7.6GW was of PV capacity was installed in 2012.
