Martifer Solar, part of Portugal-based Martifer SGPS SA, has announced that it has completed the construction of a 1.5MW PV plant for in Pufesti, Vrancea County, Romania for Danish company Eurowind Energy. The plant represents the company’s first PV plant in the country.
The PV system covers an area of almost 4 hectares. As the EPC contractor, Martifer Solar supplied and installed 240W polycrystalline MPrime modules on fixed structures. The output of the plant was not disclosed but the company said that it would be enough to power nearly 1,000 households annually.
The plant was completed at the beginning of July and was connected to the grid on August 2, making it one of the first large-scale PV plants to be connected to the Romanian national grid, the company claims. The plant will be operated by Eurowind Energy.
Martifer Solar and Eurowind Energy will continue to work together having signed a contract in 2011 concerning the distribution of Martifer Solar’s MPrime components in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. And following the success of the Pufetsi project, both companies are keen to continue cooperation in other European markets in the future.
Commenting on the project and the Romanian solar industry, Pedro Pereira, Martifer Solar’s director for Europe and managing director for Romania said, “This has been the first of several PV plants we intend to build in the Romanian market. Right now the Romanian market is becoming one of the most active ones in the PV sector, in Europe, and we have already a consolidated presence here from which we are expecting to leverage from in order to secure a leading position as an EPC contractor.”
