Tioga Energy advised that it had completed the installation of a 249kW solar system at BJ Wholesale Club’s Deer park, New York location. This is the first of two projects Tioga is developing through an incentive from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Combined, the two projects will provide 850kW of renewable energy.
BJ’s latest solar project was commissioned in late 2011, engineered and installed by EmPower Solar, and developed and financed by Tioga, which also owns and operates the system. Under a 20 year SurePath Solar PPA, Tioga will sell the electricity generated by the system back to BJ’s at low, predictable rates.

This is the first project constructed and financed by Tioga in New York, but is the company’s fifth collaboration with BJ’s. The two companies have now worked together to install around 2,000kW BJ Wholesale Clubs along the Eastern seaboard.
“Tioga Energy has consistently demonstrated its value as a renewable energy partner,” said Kevin Moran, manager of energy at BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Since our first PPA with them in 2010, Tioga has helped us pursue our corporate commitment to preserve the environment through innovative and environmentally sound programs that reduce energy consumption, such as solar.”
Tioga advised that later this spring, it plans to announce a second system developed in conjunction with NYSERDA, which received funding for this project through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
