As reported by Barron’s, MEMC Electronic Materials announced an agreement with Gintech Energy to cut the contract price of polysilicon wafers. This is a change to part of the original October 2006 10-year supply agreement to supply Gintech with solar-grade silicon wafers. The new agreement allows generated revenue to remain the same, yet increases volumes and reduces prices.

Dow Chemical Co. has announced that it plans to begin selling power-generating roof shingles by 2011, as part of its US$50 million Dow Solar Solutions project to sell thermoplastic solar roof shingles in North America.

A 1.1MW solar PV plant on the Augustine Reservation, the first PV project approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in southern California, has begun providing power to the Eastern Coachella Valley electrical grid. The plant includes about 15,000 First Solar modules and will produce 1,900MWh per year.

Trina Solar announced its estimated financial results for both the fourth quarter and the full year 2008. For the fourth quarter, the company expects total net revenues to surpass its previous guidance range of US$190-210 million, with a positive net operating cash flow at about US$60 million. They also expect their short-term debt to be reduced by about US$41-249 million and a non-cash inventory provision between US$16 and 18 million.

SunPower Corp. has completed construction of its 350kW solar power installation on the Crowne Plaza Hotel rooftop in Alice Springs, Australia, the largest roof-mounted solar power system on the continent. Invest North Pty Ltd. is the owner of the project.
