An industry veteran with over 15 years of investor relations experience, Michael McCarthy has joined the Evergreen Solar team and will oversee the company’s investor relations concerns. The newly created post of director of investor relations will see McCarthy tap his experience in working with the capital markets and the investment community, while reporting to Michael El-Hillow, Chief Financial Officer.

The Portuguese company Martifer Solar and Spire Corporation, located in Bedford, Massachusetts, have announced their mutual satisfaction with the performance of the 50MW fully automated turnkey module manufacturing system developed for Martifer by Spire. The line uses robotic systems, subcontracted by KUKA Systems Germany, for material handling and processing.

Premier Power Renewable Energy, Inc., solar power systems manufacturer for the U.S. and Europe, and Umpqua Bank have entered into a credit and finance agreement. Premier Power is now able to borrow a $7 million line of credit for general working capital needs, which may increase to up to $12 million depending upon Premier Power’s acquisitions.

In an attempt to attain the efficiencies of silicon solar cells coupled with the relative cheapness of thin-film manufacturing, XsunX has proposed a new TFPV technology that utilises the unused manufacturing capacity of the hard disk drive industry with the aim of mass production of cheap and efficient solar cells. While current manufacturing techniques use the near-20% efficiency CIGS-based thin films, XsunX points out that this technology does not take advantage of the benefits of working with stationary, small area production technologies that can result in higher efficiencies.

Thin-film PV developer Ascent Solar Technologies has named former Applied Materials executive Farhad Moghadam as the company's new president and CEO, effective August 3. The announcement culminates a nine-month executive search conducted by the flexible CIGS module company.
