Major PV energy provider, SunPower, could announce today plans to expand PV production by as much as 750MW, according to a research note by Deutsche Bank equity analyst, Vishal Shah ahead of SunPower’s second quarter earnings call.

SunPower has been capacity constrained since the second half of 2013 and announced a new 350MW fab in the Philippines, ‘Fab 4,’ which would spearhead its next generation (Gen 3) solar cell and module technology.

However, the company had also touted in February 2014 that it was planning its next major facility, ‘Fab 5’, that would be on a larger scale than existing facilities, yet did not reveal any plans to expand capacity at its JV facility in Malaysia.

The Malaysian ‘Fab 3’ has as yet not been fully equipped and the 750MW expansion noted by Deutsche Bank could be in relation to that facility.

SunPower is releasing second quarter results and undertaking an earnings conference call later today. PV Tech will report further details as they emerge.
