A twenty-year veteran in the electric utility and electric equipment manufacturing industry, Dr. Ali Chowdhury, is the new vice president of transmission and interconnection planning for 8minutenergy Renewables. In his new role, Chowdhury will oversee the development and business features necessary to bring solar PV projects to their full realization in a swift period of time.

Prior to 8minutenergy, Chowdhury was director of infrastructure development for the California Independent System Operator’s (CAISO) Market and Infrastructure Development division. His previous employment saw Chowdhury serve in senior management positions with MidAmerican Energy, GE, Atlantic Nuclear Services and Alberta Power.

“There is a global desire to add wind, solar and other environmentally benign power technologies to the grid,” said Chowdhury.  “Joining 8minutenergy allows me to apply my extensive experience and vast research on the interconnection of wind and solar technologies to incorporating them into the California grid, thereby making it a greener, smarter and more reliable 21st century grid.  8minutenergy is a serious player that is not dependent on government subsidies or Wall Street, which means we can fast track energy projects to interconnect with the grid. I find this very attractive.”

During his career, Chowdhury has authored over 150 research papers, a book on power distribution system reliability and a soon-to-be-published book on applied power system reliability. He holds several technical awards from national and international engineering organizations, is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the British Institution of Engineering and Technology, a Chartered Engineer in the UK and a Professional Engineer in the U.S. and Canada.
