A statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange said the change of name would have no material impact on the day to day running of the company.

Having made an increasing number of forays into downstream PV business, and with the company preparing the ground to become a significant thin-film PV player in the coming years, the change of name is clearly intended to underline both these core facts of its business.

A number of other Chinese companies have changed their names in recent months to reflect into downstream business, including GCL Poly to GCL New Energy and Goldpoly to United Photovoltaics.
