On 11 February 2013, Japan and the European Union filed a cross appeal in the dispute against Ontario's domestic content feed-in tariff programme with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Early last week, the Canadian province of Ontario appealed against the WTO ruling that in December found it had violated WTO regulations rules through its domestic content tariffs.

Each appeal is heard by three members of a permanent seven-member Appellate Body which represents the geographic range of WTO membership. Generally, the Appellate Body has up to three months to conclude its report.
