German solar firm JvG Thoma is to supply an unnamed company with manufacturing equipment for a 10MW PV module plant in Nigeria.
The plant is expected to produce JvG’s Desert module, which is designed to operate in environments with extreme temperatures and temperature fluctuations, high atmospheric humidity, strong winds and sandstorms.

Nigeria currently has no government support available for solar energy, but it recently set a target of sourcing 5% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2016.
JvG Thoma said with over 300 sunny days a year, Nigeria could exploit solar energy as a viable alternative to oil, which is the source of significant corruption and violence in the country.
