Centrosolar connected its newest solar system installation in Turkey to the grid. Alleged to be the largest thin-film solar power system to date in Istanbul, Turkey, the installation sits on the roof of confection manufacturer, Perfetti Van Melle. The total energy output at peak is 31kW with 38MWh of electricity production expected per year.

Centrosolar used 108 of its thin-film TF Plate Professional solar modules, which measure over 16.4 feet in length and have two laminates made by United Solar Ovonic. Each solar module can produce 288Wp and were developed for trapezoidal sheeting roofs.

“Our light thin-film modules are the best solution for this factory roof which has a pitch of only 10 degrees, is aligned in an east-westerly direction and has a low carrying capacity. They will deliver higher solar yields than crystalline modules in a comparable position. The high temperatures in Turkey also clearly favor thin-film systems, which have better temperature coefficients”, explains Torsten Lütten, director international sales at Centrosolar.
