Q-Cells SE is set to increase its presence within the U.K. solar industry by opening a new office in London. The exact opening date for the office has not been revealed but it is likely to take place before the end of Q2.

London is the latest major city Q-Cells has set up camp in, following office openings in Berlin, Rome, Paris, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, Hangzhou and Bangalore. Despite recent uncertainty around feed-in tariff legislation, the U.K. is a market viewed by the German firm as strategically important. “With a high degree of home ownership and promising feed-in-tariff legislation we are confident that the U.K. market offers great potential,” said Hans-Gerd Füchtenkort, executive board member of marketing and sales at Q-Cells.

Q-Cells is also awaiting Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation for its Q.SMART and Q.PRO thin-film PV modules, which it is currently showcasing at London’s Ecobuild trade fair. While it awaits the green light on these modules and for the dust to settle around the U.K.’s FiT furore Q-Cells is refraining from making any concrete plans regarding future projects, although it is tentatively exploring several joint ventures opportunities.
