First quarter 2013 new order intake at manufacturing equipment specialist, Singulus Technologies may have been at low level but sales in the quarter increased to €22.8 million.

Singulus noted that the weak solar market as well as seasonal trends in the optical disc segment had an impact on the order book comparison in the quarter. New order intake was €15.6 million, compared to €55.7 million in the same period a year ago, which was dominated by a large solar production line order worth €20.2 million.

The company reported solar segment sales in the first quarter of €7.1 million, up from €5.2 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Increased sales supported a reduction in a negative EBIT of €4.9 million, compared to €5.7 million in the same prior year quarter.

The company had reduced its solar segment headcount by 40% in 2012 to combat the weak PV market as well as writing-off its coating process technology for standard solar cells. Singulus has solar segment sales in 2012 of €29 million, 26.8% of total annual revenue of €108.6 million, down from €160 million in 2011.
