US energy provider SolarCity is promoting its net zero home concept at this year’s International Builders Show (IBS) which runs from 22 January to 24 January and hosted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

As part of the promotion, IBS attendees are invited to visit SolarCity’s New American Home which is powered by electricity generated from 56 solar panels. The panels are able to generate more electricity than the home needs in a year making it a “net zero” home. The green home model has been designed by Blue Heron.

SolarCity also operates its Homebuilder Partner Program which has been launched to help builders incorporate solar in new residential constructions and lower a homeowner’s energy costs by enabling them to generate their own electricity. SolarCity’s PV installations for new residential constructions grew by more than 350% between 2011 and 2012.
