Energy Performance of Buildings Directive

Earlier this year a revision of Europe’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive came into force, setting new standards for decarbonisation of the built environment. Dr Silke Krawietz looks at how the updated policy could drive a step-change in the deployment of building-integrated PV.

The EU's Energy Performance of Buildings Directivehas been adopted by member states, aiming to reduce the overall energy use of buildings.

The European Parliament has approved a law requiring member states to deploy solar installations on buildings and renovate them to improve their energy efficiency.

The strengthened EPBD aims to boost the energy performance of buildings and requires new buildings to be solar-ready.
