US solar developer Swift Current Energy has started construction on its 800MWdc ‘Double Black Diamond’ solar PV project in central Illinois.

Chicago has entered into an agreement with Constellation for the purchase of renewable energy to supply its facilities by 2025.

The project can demonstrate how large amounts of solar and batteries can be integrated with microgrids.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and various public entities have teamed up to move the city’s buildings’ electricity use to 100% renewable energy by 2025.
