Tata has also commissioned 36MW of a 100MW wind farm that is still under construction at Nimbagallu in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

TPREL now has a 1,876MW renewables portfolio comprising 915MW of solar and 841MW of wind, alongside 120MW of waste heat recovery capacity, having added 1,169MW operational capacity in FY2016.

Last year, Tata won 320MW of solar bids, which are under development and will be commissioned in 2017.

Rahul Shah, chief executive and executive director, TPREL, said: “Our strategic approach is in line with Tata Power’s aim to expand its clean energy portfolio up to 35-40% by 2025. We are extremely proud of this development and we continue to seek to grow our portfolio in India and in select international markets through organic and inorganic opportunities.”

In a previous interview with PV Tech, Mercom Capital Group chief executive and co-founder Raj Prabhu, discussed the Tata/Welpun acquisition in detail.
