Trina claims 324.5Wp output from multi-crystalline solar module

Chinese tier one PV module manufacturer Trina Solar has claimed a new world record for power output from its Honey Plus high efficiency multi-crystalline silicon module of 324.5Wp.

The company, recently crowned leading manufacturer for 2014, overtaking the previous year’s leader Yingli Green, announced on New Year’s Eve that the Honey Plus module had attained the new figure, verified by TUV Rheinland. This surpasses previous outputs attained by the Honey Plus module, which uses 60 Honey Plus multi-crystalline cells, each 156×156mm2, from the company’s pilot production lines. Advanced technologies used in the cells include back-surface passivation and local back surface field. The latest research and development work has come from Trina Solar’s State Key Laboratory of PV Science and Technology of China, which was accredited by the Chinese government in late 2013.

Announcing the record on the final day of last year allowed Trina to celebrate four world records for p-type PERC cells and modules in 2014, according to the company. In addition to the new multicrystalline output record, Trina also recorded a power output of 335.2Wp for its PV modules made with mono-crystalline cells. The Honey Plus p-type PERC cell recently also hit independently verified conversion efficiencies for large-area (156×156 mm2) p-type silicon substrates of 20.76% for multi-crystalline and 21.40% for mono.
