According to Algerian newspaper El Watan, Edielec is to open a 12MW manufacturing facility producing about 54,000 solar modules annually. The plant is to become operational in March.
CEO, Sid Ali Mokhefi has said the solar panels would be made using solar cells produced by Rouiba Eclairage, a subsidiary of Algerian state-owned electric and gas utility Sonelgaz SpA.
Mokhefi blames administrative and financial obstacles for the plant already being three months behind schedule, but hopes the reputation of Edielec will proceed itself and investors will come forward.
